Volunteer Opp: 14th Annual Holiday Market
Calling all Vancouver Farmers Markets volunteers! Our 14th Annual Holiday Market is coming up in two weeks and we are looking for a lovely group of volunteers to help us staff and run our big bash holiday event of the year. Read here for more info on the Holiday Market.
Date: Saturday, December 12th, 2009 (one day only this year)
Time: doors open 10:00am - 6:00pm
Location: *New* Croatian Cultural Centre - 3250 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
Admission: Free for volunteers. Free for members. $2 minimum donation at the door for the public. Proceeds go to Vancouver Farmers Markets.
You are more than welcome to help us out during the entire day, however we’ve broken the day down into three main shifts.
7am - 11am - Set-up Team (4 hrs)
11am - 3pm - Holiday Market Helpers (4 hrs)
3pm - 7pm - Take-Down Team (4 hrs)
Set-up Team
We are going to arrive at the CCC early so that we can help finish setting up the main auditorium room where the market will be held.
- Move chairs and maybe tables into their final place.
- Help to decorate (let’s make it feel holiday-ish in there), hang up signs, set-up our market merchandise booth, ticket/entry table and raffle table.
- Help vendors set-up their booths inside and prep the stage for live demos.
- Help collect raffle prizes from the vendors for our grand raffle prizes.
Holiday Market Helpers
Once the doors open, we will have four main stations that volunteers will help out at:
- Admission Crew - this crew will help collect admission donations, take entry counts of attendance, help us run a quick survey about how people found out about the market, point people in the right direction if they are lost, and let people know about our raffle, the merchandise table, and any specials.
- Raffle Prize Crew - the raffle crew will help us finish collecting raffle prizes, but will mainly be around to help sell raffle tickets! There will also be a few people to watch the prizes too :-).
- Merchandising Crew - the merchandising crew will assist one of our market staff members who will be onsite helping to transact merchandise sales, as well as market money. We need some good marketers to help us sell our new holiday mugs and our wonderful market t-shirts, aprons, and buttons.
- Stage & Break-Please Crew - there will also be a core team of volunteers that will help us take care of demonstrators on the stage, walk around and let shoppers know about the merchandise, raffle, and also help us switch crews around to keep everyone happy :-).
Then we will try to staff enough volunteers that we can switch shifts and help out any vendors, get coffee, stand in for potty breaks, etc.
Take-Down Team
This team will come toward the end of the market, and help relieve volunteers who are helping us during the market day (see above). When the market closes at 6pm, this crew will be needed to help us break down the different tables, find our raffle winner, help vendors clear out of the hall, and clean up.
