FAQ on the Holiday Market…
How does the Holiday Market we hold differ from the regular Winter Farmers Market or Summer Markets that we hold throughout the year?
The Holiday Market is primarily a gift market featuring local farmers, crafters, and artisans. Unlike the Winter Farmers Market, there will be little raw produce there, more local crafts and food gifts. The Holiday Market is a unique market in that you can shop for gifts for family and friends an all products there are local. Gotta love BC!
How many years has the Holiday Market been going on?
2009 will mark the 14th Annual event - amazing eh? All local goods and all volunteer run, or largely volunteer run.
What is unique about this year’s Holiday Market?
Namely, the location. In past years, the Holiday Market has been held at smaller venues such as the Heritage Hall on Main Street. The smaller markets in the past meant that we had to have two-day markets to fit all of our vendors! This year, we are in a larger space and concentrated, so everyone can see everyone and shop on the same day!
Why is there admission for this event?
Being that it is a special gift market, and our last large market of the calendar year, it is also a chance for us to raise some funds for the Vancouver Farmers Markets (Your Local Farmers Market Society). Admissions at the door help go toward growing the non-profit society.
What can I expect?
Hopefully lots of local guests picking up gifts, office gifts, stocking stuffers, neighbor holiday party favors, all in the super spacious CCC. Most of the same farmers that you see at our Winter Farmers Market will be there, only all cute as button in their holiday attire with holiday wrappings.
What other features will be there?
We will have a raffle prize table - full of prizes - raffle prize entry tickets will be sold, and a winner and/or set of winners will be announced! We will also be selling our merchandise including a brand new coffee/tea mug! (I’m very excited to see it - talk about cool for the office.) I mean imagine taking up some lovely wild harvested goods all packaged up for giving - totally thoughtful, ecological sane, and hip too! There will also be live demos of some of our vendors and artisans up on the stage, showing us how they craft pottery, etc. As I mentioned, not too many raw produce items, but the Holiday Market is sandwiched between two Winter Farmers Markets - one on Dec 5th and one on Dec 19th, both at WISE Hall.
How can I help?
Volunteer! You get admission for free, you get to help out a worthy cause during the holidays, and you meet some of the nicest people in town.
Also, word of mouth help is amazing for this type of event. Talk it up at the water cooler, post about it on Twitter, submit it to your community calendar. Helping us get the word out is great help.
What if I’m a member?
If you are a Market Member, then your admission is free at the door. Also, you can bring a pal, mate, partner, significant other with you and their admission is covered too. Just bring your member card along. Thanks for the read! If you have more questions, then please contact the market office 604-879-3276.
